DSAA April Board Meeting Minutes
The DSAA Board met on Tuesday, April 8. Most of the meeting was devoted to a Board Training, in which we reviewed or organizational structure and got advice from an outside consulting firm about how we could make organizational changes to improve the efficiency of our growing organization.
As a result of the meeting, we decided to simplify our committee structure into two external committees: Fundraising / Communication and Community Issues and one internal committee: Executive Committee. The meeting minutes are available.
Our next Board meeting will be held on Saturday, May 3 at Clair Tappaan Lodge, immediately following the Free Fire Prevention Seminar.

DSAA Annual Summit Cleanup
DSAA hosts the Annual Summit Cleanup Day:
Saturday, June 7
10am
Meet at the Soda Springs General Store
Everyone is encouraged to attend this important community cleanup day. It's a great way to beautify the summit and an even better way to meet your neighbors. It's easy: all you have to do is walk around and pick up trash while you visit with your friends and neighbors.
There will be an appreciation party following the cleanup.
In addition to our regular clean-up volunteers, we are looking for people to pick up the garbage bags that are filled during the cleanup. If you have a pickup truck and are willing to spend an hour or more driving around the summit picking up garbage bags and dropping them in the donated dumpsters, we could really use your help.
Please contact info@DonnerSummitAreaAssociation for more information.

DSAA Board February Working Meeting Minutes
The DSAA Board met on Monday, February 11 for its monthly meeting. Placer County Supervisor Bruce Kranz joined us for the meeting. We discussed the proposed Royal Gorge development and community plans. Supervisor Kranz told us that, as far as the county is concerned, the same process is followed for creating a Community Plan as will be followed in reviewing the proposed Royal Gorge development zoning change requests. Supervisor Kranz also said that the proposed Royal Gorge development includes most of the undeveloped land on the Placer County side of Donner Summit.
The DSAA board agreed that our idea of a Community Vision differs from that of the County, because we would like to see a lot more included in the Community Vision than simple land use and zoning, which are the main aspects of County sponsored community plans, such as sense of community and economic vitality. Also, the DSAA would like to create a Community Vision that includes both counties, and a Community Plan sponsored by either county would only address one side of Donner Summit.
The Fundraising Committee discussed its plan to hold a Community Picnic on Saturday, July 5, hopefully behind DSL (location to be confirmed). We are actively seeking volunteers for everything from advanced planning to working at the event itself.
For more information about the meeting, please see the Meeting Minutes.

Summit Summit 2 Report Released
The official report from the Second Annual Summit Summit, held December 15, 2007 is now available.
The second Summit Summit was a huge success. About 75 local area residents, property owners and representatives from local area groups were in attendance. We broke into discussion groups to draft Guiding Principles in the following areas: Sense of Place/Quality of Life/Cultural Values; Natural Resources: Habitat and Forests, Wetlands, Meadows, Water Quality, Water Supply, Water Runoff; Economic Development and Business Development; Infrastructure: Transportation (Public and Private), Wastewater, Roads; Communication: Safety, Internet; and Growth and Development.
The discussion was framed around values and concerns identified at least year's Summit Summit and the recent DSAA Donner Summit Survey.

High-Speed Wireless Internet in Serene Lakes
Exwire, a local internet service provider, is now offering wireless high-speed internet access to part of Serene Lakes. The first service area is the Northwest side of Serene Lakes, as seen in the service area map. The map is of poor quality and we are trying to get a better map. Ignore the rectangle and look for the scratchy triangle. The service area basically extends north from Bales and west from Soda Springs Road. Hillside is included in the service area, but the northeast corner of Serene Lakes, including most of Pahatsi is not in the service area. The cost of the service is in-line with other high-speed internet providers. See the Exwire website for contract information. Exwire hopes to expand the service area in the future.
DSAA in no way endorses Exwire and we do not, as a rule, solicit business. We are only including this information on our website because it has been requested so often.

DSAA Board December Working Meeting Minutes
The DSAA Board met on Sunday, December 9, 2007 for their monthly working meeting. The bulk of the meeting was dedicated to discussion and preparation for tomorrow's Summit Summit II (see below). The 2007-2008 DSAA committees were also finalized. The committees are as follows: Fundraising and Membership, Economic Development, Communication, Infrastructure, Education and Community Building, Information Technology, Community Visioning, Organization Coordination and Budget and Treasurer's Committee. Volunteers are always very welcome. Please contact info@donnersummitareaassociation.org if you are interested in helping. We need help with everything from posting meeting announcement fliers to stuffing envelopes to permanent committee members and everything in between. DSAA is a volunteer-run organization. Without volunteers, there would be no DSAA.

Summit Summit II
DSAA invites you to attend the Second Annual Summit Summit:
Saturday, December 15, 2007
10am - noon
Donner Trail School, Kingvale
Please join us in the important next step of the process of developing a Community Plan for the Donner Summit Area. We will use the recent DSAA Donner Summit Survey results, based on the outcome of last year's Summit Summit, to develop a set of development planning guiding principles for our community. The intention is that the guiding principles written at the upcoming Summit Summit will eventually be adopted by local community groups, homeowners' associations and Nevada and Placer Counties. It is important that your voice be heard in this process.
All members of the Donner Summit community are encouraged to attend.
Contact info@donnersummitareaassociation.org for details
Update: There will be a brief review of the recent Summit Survey results prior to the meeting, starting at 9:30am. If you are not familiar with the survey results, this review session may be of interest, as the survey will be a critical foundation of our discussion.
